Praying for the City & Church: June 14-20
June 14th, 2010 by Stephanie
Continuing this month’s focus on Hope Toronto and the needy of our city, this week we are praying for Yonge Street Mission and Light Patrol, as well as some urgent needs within our own church community.
Prayer for the City:
- Pray for the youth on the streets, particularly for those who are new to the streets. Pray for their protection from violence and abuse. Pray that they would have alternatives to their situation that would provide them with a stable future and redemption from the streets.
- Pray for agencies like Yonge Street Mission (YSM) and Light Patrol who reach out to youth on streets and those in poverty. Pray for their leaders and volunteers–for strength, energy, commitment and encouragement in the work they do. Pray that they would see God working amidst them and they would see life change in those they are working with.
- Pray for the YSM St Jamestown youth program (youth-run initiative providing fitness, mentoring and tutoring) to become more established with the human and financial resources needed to make it successful. Pray that committed volunteers would be raised up to take ownership of this program and help it through its new stages of development. Pray for your own heart to consider this urgent opportunity.
Prayer for our Church:
- As Sunday’s sermon reminded us, pray for us to recognize God’s grace in the midst of the Fall (Genesis 3) and our sinful tendencies. Praise God for His eternal covenant of grace and may it cause us to praise Him daily for the way He works in our lives.
- Pray for our hearts to be convicted to serve the needy and marginalized this summer. Pray for commitment and enough volunteers to make the Hope in the Summer opportunities successful. Pray that we would each choose at least one opportunity over the summer to get involved in serving the city in this way.
- Praise God for a successful trip for the team that helped the Hackmanns move! Praise God for no complications at the border, a safe drive, and a smooth process in receiving their work permits. Pray for Kimberly and Eden (their daughter), as they arrive next week, for a safe trip and a good adjustment to a new city and new home.
- Pray for ongoing spiritual growth and development to happen in our lives, even as the Grace Gatherings have ended and the summer becomes filled with vacations and extra activities. Pray that we would stay committed to daily time in God’s Word and in fellowship with one another.
Special Needs:
- Please pray for a single mom who has requested prayer for protection and safety from her 13 year old son who has been abusive towards her. He has been escalating in violent behavior towards her recently and has been behaving this way in public as well. Please pray not only for her protection, but for a conviction and permanent change within her son. Pray that she would find someone who would be able to wisely intervene in the situation and provide counsel and care to both mother and son.
- Please pray for Beth Williams’ grandmother who is living on her own but finding it increasingly difficult to care for herself. Pray for her own strength and for generous people to help her in meals and simple errands. Please pray that she would find peace and happiness in her surroundings and that she would remain healthy, with no more hospital admissions. Please pray for time to be freed in Beth’s family’s schedule, so that they may also help her in her day-to-day life. Pray that God would use this time in her life to draw her to Himself.
