Praying for the City & Church: June 21-27
June 21st, 2010 by Stephanie
This week, in light of the G20 meetings happening in Toronto, we will be praying for the city as it prepares and the resulting outcome, as well as some needs within our own church community. *Please note the special need section especially.
Prayer for the City:
- Pray for the preparation of the G20 summit–pray for safety, protection, and thoughtful planning of all those involved. Pray for an avoidance of violence of any kind and for peaceful protest demonstrations.
- Pray for the actual content of what the G20 delegates will be discussing, that it would lead to progressive action for eradicating poverty around the world. Pray that there would be unity and consensus in decision-making. Pray that the decisions made this weekend would especially help those countries most in need around the world.
- Pray that this meeting would lead to an opportunity for the delegates of theses countries to be exposed to Christ while they are in Toronto. Pray for the Christians who are involved in the various aspects of this meeting (security, officials, politicians, etc) that they would have opportunities to share their faith and glorify God in all their interactions.
Prayer for our Church:
- As Sunday’s sermon reminded us, pray for us to recognize God’s grace in the midst of the depravity of humanity during Noah’s day (Genesis 6). Praise God for His eternal covenant of grace represented by the rainbow and may it cause us to praise Him daily for His faithfulness in our lives.
- Pray for the upcoming Congregational Meeting that will be voting in the new deacons. Pray for wisdom, unity and cohesion among the new deacon board. Pray for resources and a wise allocation of those resources, as they address the various needs that come up among our congregation.
- Pray for the upcoming Grace Summer Games this Saturday. For safety on the field and for a fun time of strengthening existing relationships and building new ones. Pray that many newcomers would come out and feel welcomed and a part of the Grace Toronto community quickly.
- Praise God for the upcoming baptisms this Sunday. Praise God for those who have chosen to share their stories of how God has eternally changed their lives and for the children who are being baptized into the covenant of God’s family. Pray that Grace Toronto would be a place where they can grow and deepen their relationships with our Redeemer.
Special Needs:
- Please pray for the Warehouse ministry, one of Hope Toronto’s partnership agencies. Pray for their leaders, Ron and Linda Farr, as they are feeling burnt out and tired in their daily ministry to the homeless and rooming community of St. Jamestown. Pray for their upcoming vacation in July to be refreshing and uplifting to them. Pray for enough volunteers to keep the ministry running while they are gone. Please pray specifically for Grace Toronto to be able to supply at least 2 volunteers a week for the Saturday morning breakfast they serve. Pray that we would be able to partner and serve them in this way by the end of the month.
