Prayer for the City & Church: Jun 28-Jul 4

This week in light of the aftermath of the G20 Summit and Pride week, we will be praying for these needs, as well as some needs within our own church community. *Please note the praise section especially.

Prayer for the City:

  • Pray for the clean-up and restoration of the city from the G20 summit–pray for the owners of the stores and other facilities that were destroyed during the protests to be quickly restored to economic stability.  Pray that the city officials would have wisdom and grace in how to help with the clean-up.  Pray for the police and security officials as they follow-up with the arrests and violent actions that occurred–for wisdom, patience, justice and mercy.  Pray for those who caused the violent action–for repentant hearts, for a willingness to admit their wrong and for a transformation in their lives.
  • Pray for the result of what the G20 delegates discussed–that it would lead to progressive action for eradicating poverty around the world and reducing the world’s deficit.  Pray for continued peaceful negotiations and unity among these countries and that those with the most resources would give generously to the countries in need.
  • Pray for the city during Pride week–that this week would be one of revealing the need for finding our identity in God alone and not in relationships, sexual orientation, materialism, vanity, wealth, etc.  Pray for the homosexual community to understand their need for Christ.  Pray that Christians would befriend those in the homosexual community and that they would unashamedly speak of Christ, yet with gentleness and respect.
  • Pray for this weekend’s festivities with Canada Day–for safety, protection and a fun time with friends and family.  Pray for this weekend to be one of restoration among divided relationships and that the celebration would bring families and friends close together.

Prayer for our Church:

  • As Sunday’s sermon reminded us, pray for us to recognize God’s grace in saving us despite being ‘nobodies from nowhere’ and yet making us people with a purpose. Praise God for His eternal covenant of grace with Abraham that resulted in Him being both the Sacrificer and the Sacrifice of the covenant promise, which gives us eternal life.
  • Pray for the new deacons who were voted in on Sunday, as they begin their new roles within the church.  Pray for wisdom, unity and cohesion among them.  Pray for resources and a wise allocation of those resources, as they address the various needs that come up among our congregation.

Praises:

  • Praise God that despite the violent outbreaks of the G20 Summit, very few injuries occurred and the majority of those involved were kept safe.  Praise God for the officials and task force that worked hard to do their job to the best of their ability for the safety and protection of Toronto.  Praise God for the progress that the delegates made and for their determination to move forward in global economic action.
  • Praise God for the new deacons He has established at Grace Toronto!  Praise Him for each deacon’s willingness to take on this servant role and for their hearts to serve the community of Grace.
  • Praise God for the successful turnout at the Summer Games Ultimate Frisbee day on Saturday.  Praise God that despite the rain and the traffic of G20, 22 people came out and new relationships were formed and old ones renewed.  Praise God that it was a mix of Christians and non-Christians!
  • Praise God that we live in a free country and that we get to celebrate that freedom this week with Canada Day.  Praise God that we have the freedom to express our praise to Him publicly and may we never take this for granted.
