Praying for the City & Church: June 7-13

Prayer for the City:

  • Pray for the residents of St. Jamestown who had a fire in their building this weekend.  Praise God that no one was seriously injured. Pray for those who lost their belongings, especially as they are among the poor and needy of this area.  Pray for the perpetrators who threw roman candles at the fire fighters who were trying to contain the fire–that they would be convicted of their actions and would not participate in continued violent activity.
  • Pray for Toronto City Mission, who reach out to the residents of St. Jamestown.  Pray for their staff, volunteers, new interns and teen helpers–for their strength, energy, creativity and wisdom as they lead the camps and activities this summer.  Pray for their Family Camp at the end of June, that whole families will deepen their relationships with Jesus and with one another.  Pray for a number of their teens who are going through many personal and family issues–pray for their dependence on Christ and encouragement from their mentors. Pray they would make wise choices and would not fall away from the care of TCM over the summer.
  • Pray for the city as it prepares for the G-20 Summit in a few weeks.  Pray for wisdom and unity with those leading the various aspects of this event. Pray for cooperation and agreement among all the various workers, volunteers, officials and security personnel.  Begin praying now that our city would be a peaceful place for this event to occur and that there would be no crises or violent outbreaks throughout the entire event.

Prayer for our Church:

  • Pray for us to daily see creation and our surroundings as an expression of God’s grace to us, as we were encouraged to do from this week’s sermon.  Praise God for being our Creator and Sustainer and find ways to give Him thanks for the grace He has poured into your life this week.
  • Pray for Dan as he is away on vacation this week and speaking at a conference in Vancouver.  Pray for physical, mental and spiritual rest.  Pray for clarity and focus as he attends the conference and for times of refreshment with the Lord and his family in Florida.
  • Pray for Kyle and Kimberly Hackman, as they prepare to move this weekend from Chicago to Toronto with their baby.  Pray for the ability to say their goodbyes and leave their home and transition smoothly to a new city, new home and new job (taking Janette Park’s position as Director of the Grace Centre for Urban Mission).  Pray for the team who will be driving down to Chicago this weekend to help them pack and move–that they would be a blessing and a friendly introduction to their new family at Grace Toronto.  Pray for his immigration to go smoothly at the border and that there would be no issues with this.
