Prayer for the City & Church: July 12-18
July 12th, 2010 by Stephanie
This week we will be focusing on the youth of our community and church. **Please note the special need section especially.
Prayer for the City:
- Pray for the youth of our city–for their growth, maturity and development into the leaders and forerunners of the next generation. Pray for their commitment to education, to respect of authority, to wise choices that would prepare them to be role models of the future.
- Pray for the youth on the streets, who have no home or who have been abandoned by family. Pray that they would find protection and safety. Pray for organizations like Light Patrol that reach out to these youth, that they would find creative ways to minister to them in both tangible and spiritual ways.
- Pray for the young girls who are trapped in the sex trade here in Toronto. Pray especially for those who have been trafficked into the city and are being held against their will in horrific conditions. Pray for the peace and presence of God to be near them and for them to hope in their redemption and freedom through Him. Pray that God would raise an army of His people in this city committed to their rescue and restoration and may He give us at Grace a way to get involved.
- Pray for the families of our city to commit to raising their children well and in a loving way. Pray for households of committed parents to one another, as role models for their children and to keep the family unit together. Pray that the divorce rate would dissipate and that there would be a revival of marriage commitments in this city.
Prayer for our Church:
- As Sunday’s sermon reminded us, pray for us to remember God’s faithfulness, even when we feel lost in our circumstances. Praise Him that even when we are faithless, He remains faithful! Pray that we would begin to rely more on His promises and repeat them to ourselves when we are tempted to doubt and take control of the situation.
- Pray for the youth and children of our congregation. Pray for their growth and development, especially their spiritual maturity, that they would put their faith in Christ from a young age. Pray for the time they spent at Grace to be a place of spiritual growth.
- Pray for the teachers of Children’s Church and the nursery workers to be encouraged by the work they are doing of pouring into the lives of these little ones. Pray that they would stay faithful to their job of spiritually caring for them and that they would see fruit and growth in their lives from a young age. Thank the Lord for raising up each of these workers and for the excellent job of Faith Poon, Elizabeth De Koning, Mari Choi and SooJeen Park in leading these ministries.
- Pray for the parents of our congregation–both the existing ones and those soon-to-be–for their commitment to ‘raising their children in the way they should go’ (Prov 22:6). Pray for parents to come alongside each other and encourage and help each other. Pray for all the babies to be born this year, for their health, safety and growth in the Lord.
Special Needs:
- Pray for Dave and Evelyn Roberts, as they are experiencing the loss of Evelyn’s Uncle Bob Sager. After just recently visiting them this past week, he has committed suicide. Please pray for their pain and sadness in the midst of this loss. Pray for the Lord to be their comforter and healer both in their hearts and in the lives of all those who knew this man. Pray for this to be an opportunity for the Gospel and God’s grace to be poured out and for hope to be restored to that family.
- Please continue to pray for Dan and Sue MacDonald, as they are grieving the loss of Dan’s dad. Pray for their time in Portland to be refreshing and rejuvenating. Pray for deep rest, for Shaila to adjust well to a new schedule and for a physically and spiritually restoring time for them.
- Please pray for Beth Williams as she prepares for her upcoming 3-month mission trip to Madagascar. Pray for her fundraising dessert night this Wednesday, that it would be an opportunity for her to share about the trip and that the Lord would raise the remaining funds she needs through this evening. If you are interested in further information about this, please contact Beth.
