Prayer for the City & Church: Aug 16-22

This week we will be focusing on the vulnerable populations on the streets, particularly within the sex trade and the homeless communities.  We will also be focusing on the children of our church and the new or soon-to-be parents in our congregation.

*Please note the special need section for an important prayer for St. Jamestown.

Prayer for the City:

  • Pray for the vulnerable populations of our city–the homeless, the sex workers, the street children.  Pray for their protection and safety in the midst of their often-dangerous and hazardous circumstances.  Pray for God to reveal Himself as Jehovah-Jireh, their Provider and Protector.
  • Pray for those who prey upon these populations–pray for conviction and unsettledness within their soul that would cause them to turn from their actions.  Pray that God would reach their hearts and would transform them to become the voice and helper of the very ones they used to prey upon.
  • Pray for the organizations that reach out to these populations–for wisdom, creativity, resources, strength for the workers, protection and lives changed as a result of their faithful service. Pray specifically for Light Patrol, a budding partnership of Hope Toronto–for their staff (John, Rosalie, Blair, Gladys and Alish) and their outreach team.  Pray that the relationships they are building with those on the streets, as they visit them each week, would be gateways into helping these homeless and victimized women off the streets and into a life of stability and peace with their lives and with the Lord.

Prayer for the Church:

  • Pray for the children of our congregation–for their maturity and growth both physically and spiritually.  Pray that the lessons they learn through the children’s ministry program would contribute to the lessons learned in their home and would teach them to become ‘doers of the Word and not merely hearers’ (James 1:22).
  • Pray for the new babies that have been born recently and the new ones about to happen.  Pray for health and safe delivery for those about to give birth.  Pray for rest and adjustment to a new lifestyle and schedule for the new parents.  Pray for loving, provisional care from our congregation upon these new parents and families that we would be the tangible hands and feet of Christ to them.
  • Pray for the children’s ministry program–for the leaders and volunteers to find joy in their serving and that they would see the fruit of their labor as these babies and children grow into the men and women that God is molding them to be.

Special Need:

  • Please pray for the community of St. Jamestown, as they have had multiple shootings occur in the area over the past few weeks.  Pray for the safety and protection of all those that live there, especially those among our congregation that live in this area.  Pray for the leaders and volunteers involved in TCM (Toronto City Mission) that reaches out to the youth in this community.  Pray for their personal safety and for wisdom as they continue to serve and provide for the needs of St. Jamestown.  Pray that the Lord would invade the hearts of those who have been contributing to the violence and would convict them of their actions and would bring them to their knees in acknowledgement of their need for peace with God and with others.
