Prayer for the City & Church: Aug 2-8
August 3rd, 2010 by Stephanie
This week we will be focusing on the emergency services field of Toronto, as well as praying for the Sunday Operations ministry and teams of Grace Toronto. **Please note the special focus section especially, to pray for Beth Williams who is leaving for a 3-month mission trip to Madagascar this week.
Prayer for the City:
- Pray for those in the medical emergency services who are often at risk on a daily basis. Pray for the fire fighters, EMTs, paramedics, doctors, nurses, medical technicians, police officers and others, for their protection and safety in the midst of the risks they take, as they serve others.
- Pray for adequate funding and resources for them to be able to do their job well. Pray that there would be no discrimination found in their service and that they would even be given a supernatural compassion towards the outcast and needy, that they may have a heart to serve and minister to them.
- Pray for the Christians among these services, that they would be a good steward of their job and would stand out not just as compassionate, diligent, faithful workers, but even more, that the light of Christ would shine through them and cause many to ask about their relationship with God. Pray that they would have the opportunity to point others to the One who is not only the physical Healer, but the spiritual Healer, who alone gives true life.
Prayer for the Church:
- Pray for the Sunday Operations ministry of Grace Toronto. Pray for its leaders, Bronwyn Jenkins and Benissa Yau, that they would continue to have energy to keep these ministries running efficiently. Pray that they would continue to make strides in having this be a ‘background’ ministry that quietly serves people, and allows the Sunday worship services to operate smoothly and without distraction.
- Pray for the major upcoming transitions in the Sunday Ops Ministry: (leadership changes, 2 leaders to 1; change from 2 services to 1; transition to a new space and all the logistical implications of having this ministry function in that space)
- Pray for ushers and snacks volunteers, that they would continue to serve with joy and out of a desire to practically minister Christ’s love to the people at Grace. Pray that volunteers would honour their commitments and realize the impact of their service on others.
- Thank God for the way those at Grace Toronto have answered the call to serve several months ago. Pray for wisdom in future recruiting of volunteers and a willingness for more to serve.
Special Focus:
Pray for Beth Williams, a nurse and member of Grace Toronto who is leaving for a 3-month mission to Madagascar this Thursday.
- Pray for the last few days of her time in Canada to be spent preparing physically, emotionally and spiritually. Pray that her good-byes would not be too difficult and that she would have a sense of excitement and expectation of what God is about to do in her.
- Pray for safety for her flights and her arrival and settlement in Madagascar. Pray for her health and safety throughout her time there.
- Pray for her teammate Kusela and her that they would make a solid nursing partnership and would develop a friendship, that they may strengthen each other and encourage each other to turn to the Lord during their time in Madagascar.
- Pray for her team, that they would be a light to the staff at Itoasy hospital, that they would not burden them but prove to become a part of their team and work collaboratively with them to be an agent of healing and comfort to the patients.
- Pray for Madagascar, their issues of deforestation, dwindling resources, poverty and political unrest. Pray for peace and calm and safety for the Malagasy people.
- Praise God and give thanks for doctors like Jonathan Lee and his wife, Hannah, as well as the Korean laproscopic team who are willing to share their expertise with Madagascar and who are giving of their time and talents there.
