This week’s prayer focus is on the community and neighbourhood of St Jamestown.  This community has experienced a series of shootings and violence in the past 5 weeks.  Please take time this week to ask the Lord for His protection and redemption for this neighbourhood.

Prayer for the City:

Stats about St Jamestown:

–Largest high-rise community in Canada (19 buildings of 14-32 stories each).  Approximately 17,000 people live in the neighborhood’s 19 apartment towers, making it Canada’s most densely populated community and one of the most densely populated neighbourhoods anywhere in North America.

–It is also one of Toronto’s poorest neighbourhoods.  Average income is $22,341, one of the lowest in Toronto.

–Known as ‘the world in a block,’ due to the high percentage of immigrants living here (Filipinos, Indians, Sri Lankans, Chinese, Korean, Russians, Serbians).

• Pray for the protection and safety of this community, as it has just had it’s 5th shooting in the last 5 weeks.  Pray especially for ‘The Hamilton’–one of the buildings where most of the violence is occurring.  Pray for the residents’ and visitors’ safety and for protection, especially for the children who play near the area.
• Pray for the gangs and drug dealers that patrol this area–pray for hearts to be melted by the Lord to turn from their violent lifestyles.  Pray that Christians would not be afraid to reach out to them and that the church would be a safe place for them to turn for help and resources to transform their lives.
• Pray for the immigrants who live in this area to find successful, well-paying jobs to be able to support their families and futures.  Pray that they would be given opportunities to see their families thrive and develop roots here in Toronto.  Pray that they would be protected from those who would try to scam them or take advantage of them.
• Pray for those from Grace Toronto Church who live in St Jamestown to have the courage and opportunity to reach out to their neighbors.  Pray that they would be able to build lasting relationships and that many would even be interested in coming to Grace or joining their Grace Gathering.

• Pray for Dan and Kyle as they are in New York this week for meetings with some church planting veterans.  Pray for wisdom and creative ideas, as they meet with them and that they would find ways to adapt them to Toronto.
• Pray for us to get confirmation soon about the new space we will be renting for when we move to one service in October. Pray that we would not have complications in securing a space soon.
• Pray for the on-going meetings with the various ministry directors, as they plan for the upcoming transition to the new building.  Pray for adaptability, flexibility, resources and creativity as we learn to adjust to a new space and plans.
