Prayer for the City & Church: Oct 18-24

This week’s prayer post is focused on the Regent Park community, following the recent murders of 2 young men over Thanksgiving weekend.  We’re also praising God for a successful launch of Grace Toronto’s service in our new location at 495 Jarvis St!!

Prayer for the City:

  • Pray for the community of Regent Park, as they are grieving the loss of two young men who were shot and killed last week, exiting an elevator from one of the apartment buildings.  Pray for the families of the victims to be given time to grieve and yet be comforted by those around them.
  • Pray for wisdom and guidance for the police and those involved in this investigation that would lead them to the perpetrators.  Pray that this case would be resolved quickly and fairly.
  • Pray that the history of violence in this neighbourhood would change and that the Lord would protect and bring peace to this area.
  • Pray for the 614 Salvation Army workers and the Squads volunteers who minister to this neighbourhood to have many opportunities to share the peace of Christ and to reach out in a practical way to help this community.

Prayer for our Church:

  • Praise God for a successful and smooth start to our first service at 495 Jarvis!  Praise God for the dozens of volunteers who were on hand to help and serve the rest of the church.  Praise God for answering so many of our prayers about this building and the combining of our services and for beginning this new chapter in the life of Grace Toronto Church.  Pray that this new chapter would be a season of great growth spiritually and in maturity as a church that we may bless those around us.
  • Praise God that we were able to assemble 75 backpacks for those in need through the BackTOBack campaign!! Praise God that we were able to hand out 13 to those on the streets and give 62 to our partnership organizations.  Pray that these would be a blessing to those they are given to and that they would reveal the love of their Provider and Savior to them.
  • Pray for Games Night this Friday to be a place where many new friendships are formed and old ones grow deeper.  Pray for a spirit of community and unity to exist and that it would especially be a place for newcomers to come and feel welcomed and included in the community of Grace.
