Prayer for the City & Church: Nov 29-Dec 5
November 29th, 2010 by Stephanie
For the next 5 weeks, we will be focusing our weekly prayers on the themes of advent and how they relate to the needs of our city and church. Each week will begin with some Scripture passages to set the context of the advent theme and then will include ways to pray for our city and for Grace Toronto Church in relation to that theme.
Advent Theme: HOPE
Scripture Reflection:
Read thru the following passages and reflect on the hope that is given thru the promise of the coming Messiah:
Prayer Requests:
-For the city of Toronto to be transformed from those ‘without hope and without God in the world’ to a city that knows the ‘hope to which its been called’ (Eph 2:12, 1:18)
- For the government and authority officials of our city to act justly and fairly and be men and women of integrity.
- For Bay Street and the financial district to act wisely and be good stewards of their resources—especially in the ongoing economic instability.
- For those looking for hope ‘in all the wrong places’ (materialism/success/fame/position/sex) to be awakened to the furthering emptiness of these things and that they would see that only Christ can bring them the hope they long for.
- For those who feel hopeless and have turned to drugs/alcohol/abuse to be awakened by the Hope of Christ and that He would rescue them from their state and renew their hope and restore their lives to ones of peace and joy.
- For other churches to be vessels of hope to the city as they declare the news that only Christ can offer true, lasting hope.
-For those in the world who have never heard of the true, lasting Hope that comes thru Christ to be given the opportunity to hear and respond
- Pray for any area in the world that grabs your heart or any person that you know, that they would hear and respond to the message of Christ during this season.
-For Grace Toronto to become a vessel of HOPE to the hopeless in our lives
- In our personal lives and relationships with other Christians
- In our witness to our neighbors/co-workers/roommates/family members
- In our partnership with mercy ministries and outreach areas (Warehouse, 614, Young Street Mission, Toronto City Mission, Squads, Sisters of Life, The Matthew House, Light Patrol)
‘The Root of Jesse will spring up, One who will arise to rule over the nations; the Gentiles will HOPE in Him. May the God of HOPE fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with HOPE by the power of the Holy Spirit.’ (Romans 15:12-13)
