Prayer for the City & Church: Dec 6-12
December 7th, 2010 by Stephanie
For the next 4 weeks, we will be focusing our weekly prayers on the themes of advent and how they relate to the needs of our city and church. Each week will begin with some Scripture passages to set the context of the advent theme and then will include ways to pray for our city and for Grace Toronto Church in relation to that theme.
Advent Theme: PEACE
Scripture Reflection:
Read thru the following passages and reflect on the peace that is given thru the Christ as our ‘Prince of Peace’:
Prayer Requests:
-For the city of Toronto to be transformed from a city of restless energy and reckless pursuit of fulfillment to a city of PEACE (Jer. 29:7):
- For a peaceful resolve as Rob Ford steps into office as the city’s mayor and for his integrity and faithfulness to steward his position wisely and act justly for the sake of the city.
- For a peace to come upon the areas of our city that are often filled with violence and disturbances (Jane/Finch, Sherbourne/Dundas, Queen/Sherbourne, Regent Park, etc.).
- For peace and contentment to dominate this season instead of materialism, discontent and greed.
-For Grace Toronto to become a vessel of PEACE to those without peace in our lives:
- Pray by name for those in un-peaceful situations (divorce, severe illness, family crisis, employee conflict, etc) that there would be reconciliation and redemption in their situations.
- In our witness to our neighbors/co-workers/roommates/family members—pray for them by name that they would experience the only true, lasting peace of a relationship with their Father.
- Pray for peace in our relationships with other Christians (Heb 12:14).
-For the conflict/crisis areas of the world to be touched by the PEACE of Christ
- For Haiti – as this ravaged country, already damaged by the earthquake in January which killed over 300,000, is now battling a cholera outbreak that has already killed over 2000 people. In roughly six weeks the disease has spread to every region of the country and sickened nearly 100,000 people. The U.N. says the death toll could be twice the official count and that up to 650,000 people in Haiti could get cholera over the next six months. Pray for peace to come to this terribly broken country and for the God to miraculously step in and end the tragedy and crisis this country has experienced over the past year.
- For the Congo—that the child-soldier policy would end and that the decade-long conflict would be peacefully resolved (5.4 million deaths from 1998-2007) and a just, peaceful government would be established.
‘Now may the Lord of PEACE Himself give you PEACE at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.’
