Prayer for the City & Church: Feb 21-27
February 19th, 2011 by Stephanie
This week, in light of Family Day weekend, our focus is on the families and relationships of our city and church.
Prayer for the city:
- Pray for strong, supportive relationships between all family members. Pray for reconciliation and forgiveness if the relationships may be strained or broken. Pray that marriage would once again be established as a life-long commitment to one another and that the divorce rate would decrease in our city.
- Pray for single-parent homes to be given the resources and support they need to raise their children in a holistic way. Pray that they would not be judged or looked-down on for their position and that Christians around them would be their strongest supporters and friends.
- Pray for the new immigrant families of our city to be given the resources and opportunities needed to adjust to a new life and a new city. Pray that the financial strain of finding jobs would not cut the parents off from maintaining strong relationships with their children. Pray that Christians throughout the city would come to their aid in whatever way possible and be a support to these families.
Prayer for the church:
- Pray for the marriages in our church – that Christ would be the foundation of these relationships. Pray that couples would be on guard against the attacks of the evil one and that they would remember their struggle is ‘not against flesh and blood [one another] but against the spiritual forces of wickedness’ (Eph 6:12). Pray that by growing in their relationships with the Lord, they would grow to love and serve one another more fully as well.
- Pray for wisdom on how to raise our children or how to interact with our parents/siblings in our increasingly independent, isolating world. Pray that we would value these relationships, especially with those in our families who do not know the Lord – that we would be faithful in our witness and friendship to them.
Prayer the world:
- Pray for Ray Hwang and Adam Lin as they are serving on a short-term mission trip to Scotland this week. Pray for the following for them:
- For the team, though the time is short, that they would not get bogged down by results-based evangelism
- For the students of Scotland, that God would prepare their hearts and intrigue them about the message of the Gospel
- For Scotland, for new revivals anywhere and everywhere from the campus to the pub
“I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call – one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” Ephesians 4:1-6
